We can all agree a judge needs to decide cases fairly, impartially, and in accordance with the law. I have the qualifications, skills, and experience to excel in this judicial position. I’ve practiced law in Nevada for 30 years in both the public setting and in private practice. I proudly served in the Washoe County Public Defender System for just shy of 15 years and litigated matters ranging from misdemeanors to death penalty cases. In 2007, I was honored to be selected as one of the first attorneys to staff the newly created Alternate Public Defender’s Office. In 2010, I made the leap to private practice.

In addition to my successful legal practice, I have served as a Judge Pro Tem in Sparks Municipal Court and Incline Justice Court over the last three years. Those crucial opportunities led to my recent appointment as the Court Referee in Reno Justice Court, a newly created position that handles misdemeanor traffic citations, small claims and other matters. This judicial experience has given me insight one can only receive by doing the job and sitting on the bench.

To help further the legal profession, I sat on the Washoe County Bar Association board for 5 years, including serving as its President. Additionally, I served on the Mandatory Status Conference Committee in Reno Justice Court to set policy regarding the handling of preliminary hearings and the subpoenaing of witnesses.

Clearly I have the qualifications and skills to perform this job with integrity, fairness, and with far more experience than any other candidate. I’m asking for your vote to use my experience to serve this community as your next Justice of the Peace in Dept. 2.

I’d be thrilled to include you on my team. Please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,

Cotter C. Conway, Esq. Candidate for Reno Justice of the Peace, Department 2
